How to volunteer
If you are interested in volunteering - contact us!! Please give your name, address and phone numbers so we can discuss things with you. If you email us with this information, we will get back to you by phone as soon as we can, perferably in the evening. If you choose to phone us on 020 7402 8792 and leave a message on our answering machine if we aren't there, please be aware that if we can't understand what you are saying we will not phone you back.
Volunteering with Paddinton's Hospital Radio is about having fun
It's also about commitment and is definitely not about sitting in a radio studio playing the records that you want to hear. Hopefully the information on this website makes it very clear - PHR has a strong focus on delivering what patients want.
If you are interested in volunteering with us, then read on.
Someone joining us as a volunteer will be expected to visit patients on the wards and collect requests under supervision by an established ward visitor. From your first visit you will probably end up behind a microphone introducing requests that you have collected, but don't expect to become a programme presenter overnight.
The time commitment we ask from you is at least 4 hours a week, on the same day, at the same agreed times, and that if you can't make it, you let us know in advance.
Paddinton's Hospital Radio is a registered charity
Part of the commitment includes helping to raise funds to keep the service going and to make it better. We expect all our members to help in this way.
And there are other things to be done too ....
There are plenty of behind the scenes opportunies, from helping catalogue and index our record library, to cleaning up and emptying the rubbish bins, making the tea, as well as the work that goes on on the wards.
Paddington's Hospital Radio operates as part of the voluntary services team at St. Mary's.
Our commitment to non discrimination
We are committed to equality of opportunity for all and will not discriminate on grounds of sex, disability, sexual orientation, race or religion. We are unfortunate that our premises are not wheelchair accessible (that hasn't stopped some people trying, but unless we move somewhere else, there is little we can do to improve on that).
People with disabilities are welcome, but we may not be able to provide a level of support that is required to people facing some challenges - we can discuss this with you if necessary.
